The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue: A Review
Let me begin by saying I love a Faustian bargain plot. A deal with the devil gone wrong holds such a premise of potential for a story to blossom. V.E. Schwab did not hold back in 'The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue'. We have been graced with such a beautifully cunning story, full of heartache and pain but also embellished in the small treasures of life and the world as we know it.
We follow Addie LaRue, who's life is exactly as described: invisible. Back in the 1700's, to escape an arranged marriage she called on the Gods that answer after dark to help her flee her wedding. The deal is made. Addie LaRue doesn't have to answer to anyone anymore. But our dark god 'Luke' provides a catch - answering to nobody means that she is remembered by nobody. She may meet people, but the moment they turn their back on her she is erased from their memory.
The story develops layers of complexities as she learns the boundaries of her curse. We feel the momentum of her life as she navigates through three-hundred years of history, no detail spared.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is a solid and well deserving 5 star story.
